Join the SpartanNash Foundation in building hope

VG's Grocery and our parent company, SpartanNash, are committed to giving back to our local communities. Together with our store guests and the SpartanNash Foundation – our company’s charitable giving arm – we support local organizations that provide hunger relief, secure shelter and support our military heroes through a series of retail fundraising scan campaigns.

Kicking off our first company-wide retail scan campaign in 2019, the SpartanNash Foundation invites store guests to join us in supporting local Habitats for Humanity through their donations.

The SpartanNash Foundation’s scan campaign to build hope and affordable housing will run Feb. 6-17.  During that time, store guests who visit any of our VG's Grocery will have the opportunity to donate $1, $5 or $10 at any checkout lane – and 100 percent of all funds raised will directly support their local Habitat for Humanity.

Last year, through the generosity and support of our store guests, associates and the SpartanNash Foundation, $176,700 was granted to more than 50 local Habitats in eight states. To put that another way, together we supported Habitats as they built:

  • Green space: $500 covers the cost of creating a yard, fence and landscaping, making a place where a child can safely play. $176,700 = 350 safe backyards in local communities.

  • Education: $1,000 covers the cost of training and materials for homebuyer financial stability and savings workshops. $176,700 = 175 homebuyers taking the necessary classes for a secure financial future.

  • Accessibility: $1,500 covers the cost of building materials for homeowners that partner with Habitat to build or repair a ramp. $176,700 = eliminating barriers in 115 homes.

  • Fellowship: $5,000 covers the cost of materials to build a new kitchen for a family to daily gather and create memories. $176,700 = 35 kitchen projects.

Through your support of the SpartanNash Foundation scan – and your donations at the checkout register – local Habitats will receive monetary support to construct new homes alongside hardworking homebuyers, provide home repairs and more.

Habitat for Humanity’s vision is to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The organization is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.

Habitat homebuyers invest 300-500 hours of sweat equity into homebuilding and mentorship classes, where they learn the responsibilities and criteria to maintain the Habitat home they purchase on a zero-percent interest rate.
