Join the SpartanNash Foundation in the Fight Against Hunger
October 24-November 4, 2018
VG's Grocery and our company’s charitable giving arm – the SpartanNash Foundation – are launching the fourth companywide retail fundraising campaign in 2018, supporting more than 100 food pantries and food banks in our local communities.
The Foundation scan campaign runs October 24 through November 4, and the SpartanNash Foundation invites store guests to join us in the fight against hunger.
One in six people struggle with hunger in our local communities, and as little as $1 can provide up to four meals for our food-insecure neighbors.
During the scan, store guests have the opportunity to donate $1, $5 or $10 at any checkout lane – and 100 percent of all donations made during the scan campaign will go directly to a local food bank in the community where the funds are raised. SpartanNash underwrites the cost of the scan, as well as providing financial support through the Foundation.
Every dollar matters as we work to end hunger in our local communities.
For example, one of our company stores has teamed up with Southside Community Kitchen in Lansing, Mich., where:
- $1 will offset the cost of food for two guests for a meal.
- $5 will provide an entire meal, including main course and two sides, for a person in need.
- $10 will buy fresh fruit or vegetables for salads for up to 60 people.
- $20 will provide milk for a week’s worth of meals.
Last year, $259,150 was granted to more than 100 local food pantry partners through the SpartanNash Foundation’s retail scan campaign to provide hunger relief. That’s more than 1 million meals for families in the eight states where VG's Grocery and other SpartanNash-owned stores are located!
SpartanNash and our VG's Grocery stores also donated 5.4 million pounds of product to community food pantries and local nonprofits throughout its company footprint last year, in addition to financial support through the SpartanNash Foundation.
