- Peel and core apples; cut into 1-inch chunks. Place in a large saucepan with 1/4 cup water plus sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, salt and cranberries. Bring to boiling.
- Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, covered, 10 minutes; if mixture is dry, add 2 tablespoons water. Cook 10 minutes more or until apples are tender and sauce is thickened.
- While still in pot, mash apples with a fork until pulpy. Stir in lemon juice. Serve warm or chilled.
