  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 lb. Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 3/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (28-oz.) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15-oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 3 tbsp. dried parsley flakes, divided
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt, divided
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 2 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 (5.2-oz.) pkg. spreadable herb Gournay cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan, divided
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 3/4 lb. shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (1-lb.) pkg. lasagna noodles, cooked according to package directions

  1. In a large skillet cook and stir ground beef, Italian sausage, onion and garlic until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain.
  2. Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce, 2 tablespoons of parsley, sugar, 1 teaspoon of the salt and basil. Bring to boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 35 to 45 minutes or until mixture thickens.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl combine ricotta cheese, Gournay cheese, eggs, ½ cup of the Parmesan cheese, remaining 1 tablespoon parsley flakes, remaining 1 teaspoon salt and oregano.
  4. Reserve ½ cup of the meat sauce. Spread one-fourth of the remaining meat sauce in the bottom of an ungreased 9x13-inch baking pan. Top with one-fourth of the mozzarella, one-fourth of the noodles and one-fourth of the cheese mixture. Repeat layers three more times. Spread reserved ½ cup meat sauce over top; sprinkle with remaining Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses. Bake uncovered 40 to 45 minutes. Remove from oven; let stand 10 minutes. Slice, and serve.
