Deep Dish "Pizza" Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 lbs. extra-lean ground beef
  • 3/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (15-oz.) can petite diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 (8-oz.) can pizza sauce
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 (9-inch) frozen deep-dish pie shell
  • 3/4 cup shredded Cheddar, divided
  • 4 (3 1/2x3 1/2-inch) mozzarella slices

  1. Preheat oven to 400F. In a large nonstick skillet cook ground beef and onion until meat is no longer pink. Remove from heat; let cool slightly.
  2. Stir in tomatoes, pizza sauce, eggs, and salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of the Cheddar on the bottom of the pie shell. Top with meat mixture. Bake 30 minutes.
  4. Arrange mozzarella slices on top, cutting to fit. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup Cheddar. Bake 5 minutes or until cheese melts. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes before serving.
