Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. boneless beef round steak, 1-inch thick
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 tbsp. Montreal steak seasoning
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 large tomato, chopped
  • 1 (4-oz.) can mushroom stems and pieces, drained
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 tbsp. chopped green bell pepper
  • 3 tbsp. chopped onion
  • 3 cups cooked white rice

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Cut steak crosswise into -inch slices. In a shallow dish stir together flour and steak seasoning. Dip both sides of steak slices in seasoned flour, shaking off excess.
  2. In a large skillet heat oil over medium-high heat. Working in batches, add steak slices; cook 3 to 4 minutes or until browned, turning once. Transfer to a rectangular 3-quart baking dish; set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl combine tomato, mushrooms, ketchup, bell pepper, onion, cup water, and salt and pepper to taste. Pour over steak in baking dish. Cover tightly with foil. Bake 1 hour or until steak is tender. Remove from oven; let stand 10 minutes. Serve over cooked rice.
