Sweet Onion-Cheese Bread

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 medium sweet onions (such as Vidalia), thinly sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tsp. lemon pepper
  • 1 (1-lb.) loaf French bread
  • 16 slices Swiss cheese

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with foil. In a medium skillet melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and garlic; cook and stir until tender. Add lemon pepper; toss to coat. Set aside.
  2. Cut bread into 16 slices, cutting to but not through the bottom crust. Place on baking sheet. Spread onion mixture between bread slices. Place 1 slice of cheese between each bread slice.
  3. Bake 6 minutes or until heated through and cheese melts. Serve warm.
